07/05/2008 - (Baseball Betting) - Right-hander Josh Fogg returns from a month-long stint on the disabled list to start for the Cincinnati Reds in game three of their four-game weekend series with the visiting Washington Nationals at Great American Ball Park.
Fogg, who pitched for the National League champion Colorado Rockies last season, came to the Reds as a free agent and was 1-2 with a 9.85 earned run average in 11 appearances - four starts - before he was sidelined with lower back tightness.
He was expected to come off the DL to take the spot of rookie Daryl Thompson, who was sent down after making three starts, but instead returns tonight in place of Aaron Harang, who's skipping a turn with stiffness in his right forearm.
Fogg's lone victory of 2008 came April 9 at Milwaukee, when he gave up four hits and an earned run in five innings of a 12-4 victory.
He's 1-3 in eight career starts against Washington with a 3.17 ERA in 48 1/3 innings.
The Nationals go with with veteran righty Tim Redding, who's recorded eight straight no-decisions.
The Rochester, N.Y. native improved to 6-3 with a 4-0 blanking of Philadelphia on May 19, but has not recorded a decision since, in spite of pitching at least 5 1/3 innings in each start.
Washington is 7-1 in the last games in which he's appeared.
Redding, who last lost on May 9 against Florida, is 1-3 lifetime against the Reds in eight appearances - seven starts - with a 6.00 ERA.
On Friday, Bronson Arroyo earned his second consecutive win as the Reds beat the Nationals, 3-0.
Arroyo (6-7) pitched six shutout innings, scattering five hits and three walks while striking out three. The right-hander last won two straight starts on May 24 and 28. Francisco Cordero pitched a scoreless ninth, scattering two hits, to earn his 17th save of the year and to help Cincinnati to its fifth win in seven games.
Ken Griffey Jr. hit his 11th home run of the year while Adam Dunn was the only Reds player to record multiple hits, finishing the day 2-for-4.
Jason Bergmann (1-6) got the loss despite a quality start, throwing six innings and allowing three runs - two earned - on six hits while striking out five and walking three. Bergmann has not recorded a win since May 15 despite giving up only six runs in his last four starts.
Dmitri Young reached base in all four of his plate appearances, batting 2- for-2 with two walks for the Nationals, who have lost four of five.
Washington took six of seven from the Reds last season.

Academy Award Betting Odds for Best Picture Offer Great Value
If there is any category that is not an obvious win for any one nominee in this year's Academy Awards, it would be for Best Picture. Sure the Departed is a 5/7 favorite, but that's hardly anything when we look at Helen Mirren and her "out-of-reach" 1 to 40 odds (which means you would win a whopping $1 for every $40 bet).
For value, take a look at MySportsbook.com Oscars betting odds on my personal favorite, The Queen - a remarkable 12 to 1 long shot. The film hasn't won any pre-awards for Best Picture (compared to The Departed and Little Miss Sunshine), but there is a tremendous following and it is a strong enough film to warrant a surprise win.
TV Guide advises Oscar watchers should be cautioned not to discount the drama "Babel" with its strong social themes about overcoming communication gaps among people of different cultures.
"While 'Babel' lost several guild awards to 'Sunshine' and 'Departed,' it still enjoys loyal support, and historically Oscar voters favor dramas with social messages over comedies like 'Sunshine' and violent crime movies like 'Departed'."
"It hasn't done well in the guilds, which means there isn't much industry support," said Tom O'Neil of awards site TheEnvelope.com, "But several critics are expecting it to win, and that gets my attention." Babel had 7 to 2 odds at press time.
Who is to say independently produced Little Miss Sunshine won't be this year's Crash. Last year, Crash won for Best Motion Picture, shocking those who bet on gay cowboy flick, Brokeback Mountain, as the favorite to win.
